On April 13rd, a delegation led by Mr. Song Baoru, Chairman of the University Council and Mr. Lu Jing, President of SMU visited Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co., Ltd(SWS). They were warmly welcomed by Mr. Wang Qi, Chairman of SWS Committee, Mr. Chen Gang, General Manager of SWS and Mr. Yuan Feipeng, Vice Chairman of SWS Committee.

Mr. Song Baoru said SMU insists on the development path of integration with the industry, contributing to the development of the shipbuilding industry in terms of school running, talent training, industrial transformation and upgrading, etc. He hoped that the two parties would further develop pragmatic cooperation on the basis of the original cooperation, continue to train and deliver outstanding talents for the transformation and upgrading of SWS, and provide better services and supports in the fields of cadre training, scientific and technological projects, human resource development, and resource sharing.

Mr. Lu Jing said that SMU is currently actively planning the 14th Five-Year Plan development and continues to promote the construction of a high-level maritime university with global influence. As a maritime university, SMU is willing to make due contribution to the development of China’s shipbuilding industry. The two parties can further actively explore the joint training and directional training of interdisciplinary talents in shipbuilding industry.

Mr. Wang Qi said SWS and SMU has a good strategic cooperation foundation. SWS is willing to further deepen the industry-academy-research cooperation with SMU, jointly injecting strength to the national strategy of building a maritime power.

Mr. Chen Gang conducted a specific analysis on the content of university-enterprise cooperation such as enterprise transformation and development needs, scientific research and innovation management, and comprehensive talent training, and put forward suggestions.

The two parties exchanged views on further deepening cooperation on projects such as joint training of talents, selection of dual mentors from enterprises, graduates employment and design of cruise ships.
