The Delegation from the China Sub-committee of Hong Kong Shipowners Association Visited SMU

On April 2nd, a delegation led by Hing Chao, Chairman of the China Sub-committee of Hong Kong Shipowners Association and Chairman of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings, and Johannah Christensen, CEO of the Global Maritime Forum, visited Shanghai Maritime University. They were received by President Chu Beiping. Representatives from the International Office (Hong Kong, Macao&Taiwan Affairs Office), the Academic Affairs Office, and the Merchant Marine College, as well as faculty representatives, attended the meeting.

President Chu Beiping warmly welcomed the delegation. He expressed that, adhering to the goal of common development in the shipping industry, after multiple exchanges and consultations, both sides have laid the foundation for comprehensive cooperation. The university will collaborate with the Hong Kong Shipowners Association to provide advanced maritime education and training for senior seafarers, promote the shipping culture between Shanghai and Hong Kong and contribute more to the development of the national shipping industry and the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Hing Chao expressed that with the application of new green and smart shipping technologies,  Hong Kong Shipowners Association hopes to strengthen cooperation with Shanghai Maritime University in the fields of high-end maritime talent cultivation and promotion of shipping culture, jointly promoting the development of high-end shipping services between Shanghai and Hong Kong.

During the meeting, representatives from the university and the guests had in-depth discussions on cooperation in organizing a series of events for the Global Maritime Forum.

Among the visitors were Que Dang, Grants and Partnerships Manager of Global Maritime Forum, Gilbert Feng, Director(China Affairs) of the Hong Kong Shipowners Association, Zhou Jianfeng, Managing Director of Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited, Frank Ji, Member of the China Sub-committee of HKSOA& Chairman of Seamaster Shipbroking Company Limited, and Xu Chun, Chairman of Equator Fund.
