On July 2nd, the Granting Ceremony for Port of Antwerp-Bruges Maritime Awards was held at Shanghai Maritime University. Attendees included Liu Guojin, East Asia Business Manager of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Jan Van der Borght, Representative in China, Port of Antwerp-Bruges & Economic Diplomatic Advisor to the Belgian Embassy in Beijing, Shi Xin, Vice President of SMU and representatives from International Office of SMU. Over 30 faculty and students from Merchant Marine College, College of Transport&Communication, Logistics Engineering College, School of Economics&Management, College of Information Engineering, Institute of Logistics Science and Engineering, and School of Law participated in the ceremony.
Shi Xin expressed gratitude for the establishment of the Maritime Excellent Paper Award at SMU, congratulated this year's outstanding thesis awardees, and briefed on the latest developments at the university, hoping for continued deepened cooperation between the two parties.
Liu Guojin, on behalf of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, thanked the university for its efforts in cultivating high-quality shipping talents and expressed hopes for expanding cooperation in various fields.
Five students from Logistics Engineering College, namely Shao Xinhao, Hao Shenglei, Huang Mingzhong, Tang Xufeng and Mohiuddin Kazi, were awarded. Shi Xin, Liu Guojin, and Jan Van der Borght jointly presented the Maritime Excellent Paper Awards to the winners.
During the event, Jan Van der Borght delivered a lecture titled Pioneer in Energy Transition and Smart Ports: Leading the Way Forward, introducing the operational status of the Antwerp Port, the EU's carbon emissions trading system, and showcasing strategies for flexible adaptation to changes in the shipping market through port greening and smart transformation.
In 2015, Shanghai Maritime University and the Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority signed a cooperation agreement, leading to the establishment of the Maritime Excellent Paper Award , which honors five academic paper excellence winners annually.
