On the afternoon of March 20th, 2025, Tobias F. Svenningsen, Consul General of the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Shanghai, and his delegation visited Shanghai Maritime University. President Chu Beiping and Vice President Yin Ming met with the guests.
Chu Beiping reviewed the cooperation achievements between the university and Norway in areas such as green shipping, talent cultivation and scientific research. He introduced the university's current work in promoting maritime legislation, green shipping technologies, and the training of high-end shipping professionals. He emphasized that, in response to the global shipping industry's trend towards intelligent, green, and digital transformation, Shanghai Maritime University is willing to collaborate with relevant Norwegian universities and maritime institutions to carry out higher-level cooperation in maritime education and scientific research, contributing to the high-quality development of the global shipping industry.
Yin Ming introduced the university's recent developments in international cooperation and expressed the hope to deepen the sharing of educational resources, co-establish an international shipping talent cultivation platform, and jointly contribute to the development of the global shipping industry.
Tobias F. Svenningsen appreciated the cooperation results between the university and Norway. He introduced that the shipping industry is a pillar and an important safeguard of Norway's economy. Currently, the Norwegian shipping industry is actively exploring the green transformation of shipping, and he looks forward to using Shanghai Maritime University as a platform to further expand cooperation between China and Norway in green shipping, shipping talent development, and other fields, contributing effective solutions for the sustainable development of the global shipping industry.
The International Office and the International Education College of Shanghai Maritime University also participated in the discussion.
After the meeting, the delegation visited the university's history museum to learn more about SMU’s history and achievements.
