On September 18th, a delegation led by Acting Vice Chancellor Jethro Wilbert Brooks Jr. of the Regional Maritime University (RMU),Accra, Ghana, visited our university. Vice President Yin Ming received the guests, and representatives from relevant departments and colleges, including the International Office, the International Education College, and the College of Transport & Communications, attended the meeting.
Vice President Yin Ming extended a warm welcome to Vice Chancellor Jethro Wilbert Brooks Jr. and his delegation, and reviewed the history of cooperation between the two universities. He pointed out that since the launch of the Logistics and Shipping Management undergraduate program 15 years ago, our university has sent multiple batches of teachers to Ghana to deliver courses, and has cultivated a total of 346 international students from countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, and Togo. Among them, 266 graduates are now working at the forefront of logistics, trade, Chinese-funded enterprises, and African education sectors, serving as practitioners of the Belt and Road Initiative in Africa and bridges for China-Africa people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Vice President Yin Ming expressed his expectation for further expanding the scope of cooperation between the two sides, and firmly believed that with the joint efforts of the two universities, new impetus would surely be injected into global maritime education.
Vice Chancellor Jethro Wilbert Brooks Jr. agreed with the prospects put forward by the Chinese side and affirmed the fruitful achievements made by the two universities in joint talent cultivation, faculty exchange, and scientific research cooperation. He stated that this program is not only a vivid example of internationalized education, but also builds a platform for China-Africa cultural and academic exchanges, making important contributions to the cultivation of high-quality logistics talents in West and Central Africa.
Subsequently, the two sides conducted in-depth discussions on matters such as the joint construction of an international conference center in Africa and the program training plan.
During his stay at the university, Vice Chancellor Jethro Wilbert Brooks Jr. also gave lectures to undergraduate students of the College of Transport & Communications and the School of Economics & Management, which were well-received by the students.
