Delegation Led by Eric Lewa Katana, CEO of Bandari Maritime Academy (Kenya), Visits Shanghai Maritime University

On September 30, a delegation headed by Eric Lewa Katana, Chief Executive Officer of Bandari Maritime Academy (BMA), paid a visit to Shanghai Maritime University (SMU). Yin Ming, Vice President of SMU, received the visiting delegation. Representatives from SMU’s International Office, International Education College, and faculty representatives from the Merchant Marine College were also present at the meeting.

Vice President Yin Ming extended a warm welcome to Mr. Katana and his delegation, and briefed them on SMUs overall development. He noted that since its establishment 116 years ago, SMU has been committed to supporting the development of the global shipping industry. Yin expressed his expectation for deeper exchanges between the two institutions in fields including maritime education and green shipping technology, so as to contribute to the innovative development of the maritime sector.

Mr. Katana introduced the current development situation of Bandari Maritime Academy. He expressed the hope that the two sides would carry out exchanges and cooperation in areas such as student exchange, scientific research, capacity building, green shipping, and marine pollution prevention and control. He stressed that through resource sharing and complementary advantages, the quality of maritime education and the capabilities of scientific research and innovation of both institutions would be further enhanced.

Subsequently, the two parties held in-depth discussions on specific matters including cooperation in simulator training and maritime talent cultivtion.

During the visit, Mr. Katana and his delegation also visited SMUs Automated Engine Room.
