Jointly Promote Green Shipping Development, Shanghai Maritime University Hosts Workshop on Development of National Strategy on GHG Reduction and Net Zero Transition in Maritime and Port Sector

On December 15, the Workshop on Development of National Strategy on GHG Reduction and Net Zero Transition in Maritime and Port Sector, hosted by Shanghai Maritime University, officially kicked off. Thirty transportation and maritime officials from Cambodia, Georgia, China and other countries gathered in Shanghai to embark on a one-week study session. Vice President Yin Ming attended the opening ceremony.

At the opening ceremony, Yin Ming, on behalf of Shanghai Maritime University, extended a warm welcome to the officials who had come from afar. He noted that against the background of global joint efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable development, the green transition in the maritime and port sectors has become a common mission of the international maritime community. The National Strategy on GHG Reduction and Net Zero Transition in Maritime and Port Sector is related to the top-level design of the maritime industry in relevant countries and plays a pivotal role. As a major maritime country, China is actively committed to promoting the Research and Development of low-carbon technologies and strategic construction in the industry. China looks forward to deepening exchanges and seeking common development with international counterparts through this training. In the summary, Vice President Yin Ming emphasized that Shanghai Maritime University has long been deeply engaged in international maritime cooperation and has contributed to the development of green shipping undertakings in countries around the world through its advantages in maritime education, talent training and scientific research innovation. He encouraged the participants to make full use of the learning opportunities provided by this workshop, interact actively, conduct in-depth thinking, and jointly explore the National Strategy on GHG Reduction and Net Zero Transition in Maritime and Port Sector.

The one-week workshop focuses on cutting-edge topics such as the maritime emission reduction development strategy of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), typical cases of the National Strategy on GHG Reduction and Net Zero Transition in Maritime and Port Sector, maritime and port emission reduction technologies, the application of clean energy in shipping, and green port construction. It is carried out in a mode combining thematic lectures, case studies and on-site technical visits. The program aims to promote the formulation and implementation of the National Strategy on GHG Reduction and Net Zero Transition in Maritime and Port Sector in relevant countries, build a cross-country and cross-regional cooperation and exchange platform for the development of green maritime shipping, and promote knowledge sharing and capacity building.

This workshop is an important measure for Shanghai Maritime University to deepen maritime cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, as well as a key activity to promote the construction of a global green shipping system.
