Malaysia Senior Marine Motor Conversion Management and Operation Training Commences

On the morning of January 12th, the opening ceremony for the Marine Motor Conversion Management and Operation Training was held at the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) Crew Examination Center. Present at the ceremony were Yin Ming, Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University; Zhang Xiaodong, Director of the Crew Department of Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration; and senior crew members from Malaysia.

Yin Ming noted that this training program is not only a key deliverable under the tripartite cooperation agreement between Shanghai Maritime University, SINGHAI MARINE SERVICES (Shanghai) Co Ltd, and Shanghai Communications Polytechnic, but also a crucial initiative driving innovation in maritime education and empowering the development of shipping talent. He emphasized that the global shipping industry is currently at a critical juncture of digital and intelligent transformation. This training focuses on the application of advanced navigation technologies and the enhancement of emergency response capabilities. Leveraging high-fidelity simulator platforms, it provides trainees with a cutting-edge and professional channel for skill advancement. He expressed his hope that all participants would cherish this learning opportunity, strengthen exchange and mutual learning, and effectively translate the acquired knowledge into practical skills, thereby enhancing their professional development and performance.

Zhang Xiaodong delivered a speech on behalf of the competent authority. He stated that Shanghai boasts leading maritime training resources and high-quality facilities nationwide. The launch of this training aligns with the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) core objective of promoting regional integration. It also fully demonstrates China's responsibility and pragmatic action, as a major global supplier of seafarers, in continuously advancing the high-quality development of the seafaring workforce.

During the ceremony, Bi Tao, Director of the Shanghai Seafarers Assessment Model Center, and Terence Zhao, Managing Director of SINGHAI MARINE SERVICES (Shanghai) Co Ltd, successively shared their insights. They discussed practical experiences and cooperative visions in the fields of maritime talent cultivation and crew skill enhancement.

This five-day Marine Motor Conversion Management and Operation Training closely follows the latest development trends in modern marine power systems and addresses the core need for improving crew practical skills. The curriculum covers key modules including industry trends, power plant operation management, emergency response procedures, functional testing protocols, core component disassembly/inspection, and simulated comprehensive assessment. The training adopts a model that deeply integrates theoretical instruction with intensive simulator-based practical exercises, aiming to systematically enhance the trainees' operational management proficiency and emergency response capabilities regarding modern marine power plants.
