Deepening China-EU Maritime Cooperation: Counsellor for Transport, Maritime Affairs and Energy of the EU Delegation to China Visit SMU

On the afternoon of February 6, Alexis Padoy, Counsellor for Transport, Maritime Affairs and Energy at the Delegation of the EU to China, visited Shanghai Maritime University. Vice president Yin Ming received the delegation. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussion on deepening China-EU maritime collaboration, as well as advancing the green and intelligent development of the global shipping industry.

Yin Ming outlined the university's achievements in maritime education and research, including its institutional heritage, talent cultivation, and cutting-edge research. He highlighted collaborative progress with EU member states in areas such as intelligent shipping, green decarbonisation, maritime law, and port operations. He noted that the global shipping industry is currently undergoing profound transformation. The university wishes to seize this opportunity for exchange to further expand cooperation with relevant EU institutions and universities. Through establishing joint innovation platforms, collaborative research, and promoting regular exchanges between staff and students, both sides can integrate their respective strengths to inject new momentum into China-EU maritime cooperation and jointly contribute to the sustainable development of the global shipping industry.

Peng Zirui expressed gratitude for the university's hospitality and highly commended its profound heritage in maritime education and research. He noted China's remarkable achievements in transport and shipping development, highlighting Shanghai's globally leading port resources, efficient integrated transport system, and mature low-carbon development practices. China and Europe share common challenges in intelligent transformation and green decarbonisation within transport sectors. This visit would serve as a catalyst to jointly contribute to the green and intelligent transformation of the global shipping industry.
