Delegation of Primary and Secondary School Teachers from Hong Kong, China Visits Shanghai Maritime University

On March 31, a delegation of more than 50 primary and secondary school teachers from Hong Kong, China visited Shanghai Maritime University, accompanied by Ms. Wu Ting and Mr. Liang Yihao, Senior Professional Development Officers of the Education Bureau of Hong Kong, China, and Ms. Liu Lijun of the Endeavour Education Centre, Hong Kong, China. Yin Ming, Vice President of Shanghai Maritime University, met with the guests. Relevant officials from the university office responsible for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs also attended the meeting.

Yin Ming welcomed the delegation of primary and secondary school teachers from Hong Kong, China. He noted that the University is located in the core area of Shanghai’s development as an international shipping center and benefits from the development opportunities of the Lingang Special Area. It has developed distinctive strengths in such fields as navigation, marine engineering, shipping management, maritime law, and logistics engineering. The University has cultivated a large number of outstanding shipping professionals and has established deep and extensive cooperative ties with universities and industry partners in Hong Kong, China. He expressed the hope that the University and primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong, China would further advance exchanges and cooperation in such areas as jointly building a maritime science education base, carrying out study tour and exchange programs, and fostering future shipping talent.

Ms. Wu Ting said that Shanghai Maritime University has a long history in maritime education. Given the close exchanges between Shanghai as an international shipping center and Hong Kong, China as an international shipping center, she expressed the hope that the two sides would further strengthen exchanges in the future. She also welcomed students from Shanghai Maritime University to work and study in Hong Kong, China, so as to further strengthen ties between Hong Kong, China and the mainland.

During the visit, faculty members from the International Education College delivered a lecture to the delegation on Chinese maritime history and culture. The delegation also visited the University’s history museum and navigation simulator. They listened attentively to introductions on shipping education and the University’s history, and learned about the active role the University has played in serving the Belt and Road Initiative, and the development of the Shanghai International Shipping Center and the Shanghai International Science and Technology Innovation Center.
